I need support

Meet The Team: Outreach Support Officer Mandy Small

Our new Veterans Outreach Support Officer, Mandy, is ready to connect with the community and build relationships to support veterans and their families in a variety of ways.

Mandy is no stranger to military life. She served in the RAF for 12 years as a Police Dog Handler, during which she was deployed to Iraq multiple times and was injured on her last tour.

She said:

“I am a mum to a 17-year-old son and an Army widow. My experiences led me to want to support others and raise awareness of the challenges veterans can face.

I have previously worked at Op Courage as a peer support worker, supporting veterans in crisis, and at SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, in fundraising.”

In her role with Combat2Coffee, Mandy will work across Suffolk and Essex, building relationships with veterans and their families, discussing their needs, and drawing on both her lived experience and professional background.

Mandy first crossed paths with our founder, Nigel, when her son hosted a fundraising event for for SSAFA, the charity that had supported their family after his father passed away due to military mental health challenges.

The event caught the attention of local media, highlighting the family’s journey, which prompted Nigel to reach out and connect with Mandy and her son.

Mandy said:

“The work Combat2Coffee carries out is vital to the community, and I really wanted to be a part of that.

“It’s crucial to help veterans and ex-uniformed service personnel who are struggling in any way to access the support they need and find their place in the world.

“I’m really looking forward to connecting with people in person, offering support in many different ways, and watching them grow on their own paths.

“I look forward to being at events, chatting with people and spreading the word about the amazing work being carried out at Combat2Coffee.”

Outside of work, Mandy is training for the 2026 London Marathon and is a passionate Ipswich Town fan, having supported the team for over 40 years. Most of her weekends are spent driving her son to karate competitions around the country.
